Where to find Twitter advanced search and how to use it
The search on this page needs no X account. X’s own advanced search form is available when you’re logged in to X.com, and you can go straight to it at x.com/search-advanced.
X’s iOS and Android apps offer only a few search filters, so on a phone, open X.com in your browser to use the full form.
- Search for anything in the search bar on X.com.
- On the results page, click Advanced search under Search filters, or open More options and choose Advanced search.
- Fill in the fields you need, such as words, accounts and dates, then click Search.
Search for tweets by keywords, phrases and hashtags
Smart search above takes a plain description, such as people sharing frustrations with their current CRM. Pounce writes the keyword searches, checks each post for relevance and shows up to 10 matches. Add words to Leave out words to exclude them.
On X, a search for several words finds posts containing all of them, in any order. Put a phrase in quotes to match it exactly, like "can anyone recommend". Use OR between words to match either one, a minus sign to leave a word out, as in -giveaway, and # to find a hashtag, like #buildinpublic.
Smart search writes its own keywords, so quotes, hashtags and operators you type are not applied as written. To use them, open How Pounce searched above the results, then copy a query or open it on X and edit it there.
How to search tweets from a specific user
On X, add from: and a username to your search. from:NASA moon finds posts by @NASA that mention the moon. Use to:NASA for replies to the account, or @NASA for posts that mention it. X’s advanced search form has a field for each.
Smart search on this page finds posts by topic and has no account filter. To find public replies between two accounts, use Conversation Search.
How to search tweets by date
Below the search box, set Posted to Last 7 days or Last 30 days, or choose your own dates. From date is included and Before date is not. Leave either date blank for an open range.
On X, add since: and until: with dates written as year-month-day. since:2026-09-01 until:2026-10-01 covers September 2026, because until: stops before its date.
Results here are a sample of public posts, not a complete archive, so an older post may not appear even if it still exists.
How to track tweets about a topic
This page runs one search at a time. It doesn’t save searches or send alerts, so to check for new posts, run your search again with Posted set to Last 7 days. On X, the Latest tab shows the newest matching posts first.
To keep watching a topic without repeating the search, Pounce monitors X and Reddit in real time and streams the best matches into an inbox.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know Twitter search operators?
No. Describe what you want and Pounce builds the search phrases for you. Open How Pounce searched above the results to see and copy the queries, or open them on X. For replies between specific accounts, use Conversation Search. This tool returns a relevance-ranked sample rather than all results from X’s native advanced search.
How does X / Twitter advanced search work?
Describe the posts you want to find, using keywords or your own words. Pounce turns your description into X / Twitter search phrases and checks the results for relevance, returning up to 10 matches. The filters below the search box let you narrow your advanced search by date, excluded words, language or minimum likes.
Can I search X / Twitter without an account?
Yes. This free online tool lets you search public X / Twitter posts without an account or signup. Opening a post or the same query on X may require signing in. If live results are temporarily unavailable, you can still build a search to open on X.
Can I search X by date?
Yes. Use Posted below the search box to choose a recent period or your own dates. From date is included; Before date is not. To include September 27, set Before date to September 28.
Can I use advanced search on mobile?
Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser to search public X posts. The filters below the search box let you choose dates, words to leave out, language and minimum likes, without opening the X app.
How do I exclude words or find posts with more likes?
Add space-separated terms to Leave out words to exclude them from the query. Enter a Minimum likes count to filter by engagement. Clear filters restores the defaults without changing your search text.
Which posts can I find, and how fresh are the results?
Results are a sample of indexed public posts, not a complete archive. Private and deleted posts are not available. Availability and ranking can differ from a signed-in X search, and Smart search can miss relevant posts. Results may be cached for five minutes.
